What is a pink slip?
In NSW, a pink slip is the common name for an eSafety check: a safety inspection that most light vehicles more than five years old need before their registration can be renewed. It's carried out by an Authorised Inspection Station, and the result is sent electronically to Transport for NSW.
The inspection covers the parts that keep you and other road users safe, including tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, lights, seatbelts, windscreen, wipers and body condition. If something doesn't pass, we explain exactly what failed and why, and can quote on the repair to get you back on the road.

Frequently asked questions
Does my car need a pink slip?
Most light vehicles more than five years old need a pink slip before NSW registration can be renewed. Newer vehicles usually don't. Your renewal notice from Transport for NSW tells you whether an inspection is required.
How early can I get my pink slip?
A pink slip can be done up to 42 days before your registration expires. Booking a week or two ahead gives you time to fix anything that doesn't pass.
What happens if my car fails?
We'll show you what failed and explain why. We can quote on the repairs and, once they're done, re-inspect the vehicle so you can renew your rego.
Do I need to take a paper slip to Service NSW?
No. Pink slip results are sent electronically to Transport for NSW, so once your vehicle passes you can renew your registration online.
