What are auto-electrical and EFI diagnostics?
Modern cars rely on electronics for almost everything, from starting and charging to fuel delivery and safety systems. Electronic fuel injection (EFI) uses sensors and a computer to control exactly how much fuel goes into the engine. When a sensor, wire or component fails, the car may run poorly, use more fuel or show a warning light.
A fault code is only a starting point. It tells us which system is reporting a problem, not always why. We read the codes, then test the circuits and components to pinpoint the cause, so you only pay to fix what's actually broken.
Signs of an electrical or EFI fault
- Check engine or other warning lights on the dash
- The car is slow to start, or won't start at all
- The battery keeps going flat
- Dim or flickering lights
- Rough idle, misfiring or hesitation when accelerating
- Fuel use has suddenly increased
What's included
- Computer diagnostic scan and fault code analysis
- Circuit and component testing to confirm the cause
- Battery, starter motor and alternator testing
- EFI sensor, injector and throttle body diagnosis
- Ignition coil, spark plug and misfire diagnosis
- Wiring and connector fault finding
- Lighting and accessory electrical repairs
Frequently asked questions
Can't you just read the code and replace the part?
A code tells us which system has detected a problem, but not always the cause. A sensor code, for example, can be caused by damaged wiring, a poor connection or a fault elsewhere. Testing first avoids replacing parts that weren't faulty.
My check engine light is flashing. What should I do?
A flashing check engine light usually means a serious misfire, which can damage the catalytic converter. Ease off, avoid hard acceleration and get the car checked as soon as possible. If it's running very poorly, stop and call us.
How long should a car battery last?
Typically around three to five years, depending on the battery, the climate and how the car is driven. Lots of short trips can shorten battery life. We test the battery and charging system at every service.
